A DOI is a persistant Digital Object Identifier, a permanent name used to identify an electronic object. Some other types of persistant location mechanisms include Permalinks, PURL's, and stable links. If a DOI exists for your resource, it will be displayed somewhere in the object's record, the full-text, the citation, or the abstract. However, not every document, picture, text file, etc, will have a DOI.
If you have located an electronic book or article but were not able to find a DOI, try using the Guest Query Form at Crossref.org: http://www.crossref.org/. Simply complete all the citation information you can, and the result of your search will be the DOI for your article.
If you have any other questions about DOI's, citing your research, or even finding articles and books, please email us back, call (724)938-4094, or visit the library!
